Here are some basic instructions on potting them.
As of this posting, we only have mystery dragonfruit cuttings available. When our other varieties become available, we will post here.
With the mysteries, you have a 98% chance of getting a red skin with red flesh variety (Amazon’s description. Not mine). A very easy plant to grow (self pollinating. Go to bed early). You have a 2% chance of getting a yellow skin with white flesh variety (again, Amazon). Easy plant to grow, but (NOT SELF POLLINATING! Go to bed late because you have to hand pollinate these at night). Probably really good fruit, but I’m just too damn lazy to stay up late like that. Isn’t that why we have bees and bats?

When you take pups off of your plant or by cuttings, you’ll want to clip the bottom as shown in the picture. Let it sit for a few days and sort of scab over. Then wet the bottom and apply some root hormone to the clipped area. If you purchased from us, your cuttings are already clipped and ready for hormone and planting. Arrow goes into the soil. On some of your cuttings, you may see what appear to be roots. They are not. They are what the plant uses to attach itself in it’s quest to climb. Trust the arrow. Use as large a pot as possible! We Use large 15 gallon pots for a 5ft. Trellis and 4 plants.

Place in a somewhat sunny area. Maybe some shade in the beginning. Should develop roots in about 2 weeks. When you slightly tug on it and doesn’t move, you’re rooted.
They grow fast in the summer. Use good potting soil. Because it is a cactus you may be tempted to use cactus soil. I’ve never had anyone recommend this. Only really good potting soil and a good balanced fertilizer.
Bob Villa apparently grows dragonfruit and recommends palm fertilizer. Richard from grafting dragonfruit uses flora nova. That’s what we currently use. We’ll try the palm fertilizer though.
